On weekdays we serve school and university students and other groups, through an array of workshops, guided tours, talks, and other activities organized around the visitor’s interests.

 On weekends, the Museum is a space for family enjoyment and recreation.

Children and adults enjoy themselves by sharing activities:

  • Guided tours on traditions and customs of the region.

  • Music and traditional dances.

  • Theatre and puppets presentation, with active participation of the children.

  • Traditional games, and demonstrations of skills. 

  • Sale of food and traditional drinks.

  • Sale of crafts and traditional toys.

In the Museum of Popular Culture, learning occurs with enjoyment, through programming of activities directed at boys and girls of pre-school and elementary school age. These activities allow children to learn interactively about the beliefs and customs that characterized our grandparents’ lifestyle and which today are part of our identity.

Discover how our grandparents live, know their habits, customs and beliefs.

 

Enjoy traditional games: zancos, canicas, trompos (tops), jackses...

The Museum of Popular Culture is a place of leisure and enjoyment for older adults,

fostering dialog and exchanges with youth and children.

Actividades para Adultos Mayores

- Sharing personal experiences and life stories, through gatherings where reflection, memory and sharing with students and the general public are fostered.


- Participating in workshops of traditional practices through traditional practices and occupations.


- Enjoying thematic talks of interest to the adult population: health, nutrition, habits and customs, recognition and use of medicinal plants, and food preparation.


- Taking part in festive activities at the Museum, with cultural presentations of senior citizen groups.

Bahareque construction system

 

Objective:

  • Make participants aware of the practical and technical aspects of the bahareque construction system,

  • with the objective of capturing their interest in the conservations and protection of architectural heritage,

  • and motivating the development of new initiatives or design proposals where typical elements of

  • Costa Rican traditional architecture are rescued.

 

 

Duration: 

20 hs

 

Slots:

25 participants

 

Participants:

students of architecture, people with a special interest in construction in mud.

 

Methodology:

 

- Spaces for reflection with specialized architects and traditional builders


- Construction of a work where the acquired practical knowledge is applied (structural aspects, design and finishing)


- Documents on the theme and reference bibliography

 

 

 Construction of Traditional Masks

 

Objective:

  • Make participants aware of the practical and technical aspects of traditional mask construction,

  • with the objective of developing their interest in the reactivation of this important traditional artisanship.

 

Methodology:

- Spaces of reflection with specialists and traditional mask makers

- Construction of a mask where the acquired knowledge is put into practice (preparation, design and finishing)

- Documents on the theme and reference bibliography

 

Duration: 

20 hs

youth and adults with a special interest in the construction of traditional masks

 

 

 

 

Learning and Enjoyment of traditional practices

 

Objective:

  • Give participants a basic awareness of traditional practices and knowledge, for personal enjoyment and transmission to their families.

  • Use of medicinal plants, recycling, traditional drinks and recipes are some of the themes discussed.

 

 

 

 

Duration: 

12 a 16 horas

 

Slots:

25 participants

 

Participants:

youth and adults with an interest

in learning manual activities,

or various other themes.

 

Methodology:

 

Participatory, “learning by doing,” as the workshops are completely practical, with participants obtaining concrete products for their enjoyment. They learn processes, techniques and adequate handling of materials.
